We recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which TV couples were so bad, they never should have gotten together in the first place. Here are some of their responses:
🚨Spoilers ahead!🚨
Note: Some of the following contain mentions of sexual assault and abuse.
1.
Jackie and Fez from That ’70s Show:

Fox
“I loved Jackie and Hyde and thought they should have ended up together. I would have even settled for Jackie and Kelso, but Fez?! Jackie really grew up throughout the series and I can’t believe they made her end up with someone she had zero chemistry with.”
2.
Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars:

Freeform
“Teen shows need to stop with teacher/student relationships.”
—starfox80
3.
Buffy and Riley from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
The WB
“Riley couldn’t handle that Buffy was stronger than him and that she didn’t need him the way he thought she should have. She needed to be with someone who completely understood her, and that was never going to be Riley.”
4.
Emily and Paige from Pretty Little Liars:
Freeform
“Paige tried to drown her, for god’s sake!”
5.
Caroline and Alaric from The Vampire Diaries:
The CW
“It was gross and weird after everything that happened.”
—eriemendes33
6.
Kurt and Blaine from Glee:
Fox
“They became extremely toxic over the course of the show. Blaine was self-centered and showed little regard for Kurt’s feelings.”
7.
Sid and Michelle from Skins:
E4
“I know the show put them together for a reason, but it just felt icky.”
—laraterryr
8.
Silver and Liam from 90210:
The CW
“It literally made zero sense that their characters would get together. They had no chemistry whatsoever.”
9.
Ray and Marnie from Girls:
HBO
“They had absolutely no chemistry and nothing in common. Their relationship just felt unnecessary.”
—rclairemac
10.
Spike and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
The WB
“There are some things you can’t come back from, and rape is one of them.”
11.
Jackson and Maggie from Grey’s Anatomy:
ABC
“They had no chemistry at all and their relationship seemed really forced. They even became step-siblings later on and no one questioned it!”
—audreykimm
13.
Echo and Bellamy from The 100:
The CW
“Their relationship never made any sense in the first place — Echo literally tried to kill his sister! It clearly wasn’t right and they definitely never should have been a couple.”
—kal63
14.
Joey and Rachel from Friends:
NBC
“The relationship was so unnecessary. They had no chemistry at all and were nothing more than a way to keep Ross and Rachel apart.”
—mattyc3
15.
Steve and Laura from Family Matters:
ABC / Everett Collection
“Even when I was younger, I didn’t buy that they’d actually ever get together. It just reinforced this idea that if you pester someone who has absolutely no romantic interest in you long enough, they’ll fall in love and marry you.”
—elizabethd37
16.
Spencer and Caleb from Pretty Little Liars:
Freeform
“A real friend would never date their best friend’s ex. I think they just threw them together to make the show more exciting.”
—rachelsg1210
17.
Alex Karev and Ava/Rebecca from Grey’s Anatomy:
ABC
“It felt like the writers were trying to include more patient storylines, but it failed miserably. There was no chemistry or logic behind them being together.”
—laantto4
18.
Kelly and Darryl from The Office:
NBC
“It wasn’t a total dumpster fire, but it was just unnecessary. Their relationship only happened as a way for the writers to get Kelly and Ryan back together.”
19.
Blair and Chuck from Gossip Girl:
The CW
“Why they felt the need to ‘redeem’ a serial rapist in the first place is beyond me, but Chuck didn’t even actually become a better person. He emotionally abused Blair throughout the show to the point where she actually forgot what it was like to be happy. They never should have glamorized the relationship.”
20.
Isabelle and Raphael from Shadowhunters:
Freeform
“They weren’t together in the books, and the two of them being a couple took away from the fact that Raphael was supposed to be aromantic.”
—c_someone_m
21.
Archie and Veronica from Riverdale:
The CW
“I actually really liked them together at first, but the relationship is bad for both characters at this point. All they do is argue and hook up. Veronica deserves plots outside of Archie.” —kellymartinez
22.
Cristina and Shane from Grey’s Anatomy:
ABC
“I don’t even know what to say other than it was messed up.”
23.
Drew and Becky from Degrassi: The Next Generation:
TeenNick
“She was literally his dead brother’s girlfriend. It was just wrong!” —kellymartinez
24.
Coach and Cece from New Girl:
ABC
“Not only was their timing terrible, there was absolutely no chemistry between them. I was rooting for Cece to break it off the whole time.”
25.
Lane and Zach from Gilmore Girls:
The WB
“It was clear they only threw him and Lane together because Dave left the show. The writers made them get married and have babies right away when Lane had barely had a taste of living her own life. They did Lane dirty.”
—sadishradish
26.
And finally, Miles and Tristan from Degrassi: Next Class:
Netflix
“Their relationship was toxic from the start. Tristan constantly made Miles feel bad for his sexuality and never supported him through any of his family problems, while Miles just wanted someone to latch onto. The show kept trying to paint them as an epic romance, but they didn’t even like each other! Miles’s relationship with Lola should have been further explored instead.”
Reminder that I, Kelly Martinez, do not necessarily endorse all of these submissions!
