Like many of us, I loved SpongeBob growing up.

The first SpongeBob SquarePants movie is a cinematic masterpiece, and no one can tell me otherwise.
But there are a few moments that I still think about to this day because they were simply terrifying. Here are 27 SpongeBob moments that scarred me for life:
1.
When Squidward was stuck in the Nowhere dimension:

I think being stuck here is my greatest fear.
2.
When Patrick UNZIPPED HIMSELF to reveal a gorilla:

This literally kick-started a lifelong fear of gorillas.

And then that gorilla tore SpongeBob in half:

When a ghost breathed on Patrick and did this to his face:

Disgusting.
5.
When the Flying Dutchman was trying to scare SpongeBob:

He didn’t scare SpongeBob, but he sure scared me.

Which included turning into SpongeBob:

NOT SPIDERS!!

When SpongeBob created the evil DoodleBob:

I don’t know why this guy just REALLY freaked me out.

When the Flying Dutchman threw Squidward into the zipper:

To this day, this is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen on a TV show.

When a giant Krabby Patty monster started eating people:

This looks like the monster from Stranger Things, Season 3.

When the sea bear attacked Squidward a bunch of times:

This episode disturbed me so much. Squidward was just mauled over and over.

When this evil face appeared on a drop of hot sauce:

Who came up with this??? Why is it a human, nonanimated face??

When SpongeBob was possessed by Plankton and did a full 180-degree turn:

This is something out of a horror film.

When Patrick and SpongeBob were making paintbrushes from their nose hairs, and Patrick’s nose looked like this:

I don’t know why this disturbed be so much, but it sticks with me to this day.

Everything about the Hash-Slinging Slasher episode, but ESPECIALLY when NOSFERATU showed up:

Again, I must ask: Who came up with this?

When SpongeBob pulled a straight-up Salad Fingers and drew faces on his hands:

If you haven’t seen Salad Fingers, you don’t know.

When Squidward got stuck in a walk-in freezer for thousands of years:

This was an actual fear of mine back when I worked at a restaurant.

Literally everything about the “Rock Bottom” episode, but especially this information person:

This creature is the stuff of nightmares.

And every time SpongeBob missed the bus, which gave me serious anxiety:

I hated this episode so much.

This is how I pictured bullies until I got bullied by a short blonde girl at summer camp. 🙁

When SpongeBob’s brain was exposed after Patrick shaved him:

An image that has been burned in my mind ever since.

When there was a fire in the Krusty Krab kitchen:

Although I think I was partly scared of this because our kitchen caught on fire when I was 4.
