Hey there! By now you’ve seen the CDC’s guidelines recommending people wear nonmedical face coverings in public (and know whether or not they’re mandatory in your area).

Two cartoon people wearing masks

CDC

These guidelines are in place primarily to protect people around you from droplets you might expel through breathing, talking, or coughing; even people without symptoms may still be at risk of spreading the virus. The masks don’t have to be anything fancy — the primary functions are that they are breathable, cover your nose and mouth, and are tight enough that they don’t leave loose space for droplets to escape. Ideally, face coverings will also be multi-layered — and even *better*, could include a pocket for a filter. You can check out BuzzFeed’s guide to the CDC’s face covering recommendations, which include answers to all your burning mask questions as well as tutorials for how to make your own!

Promising review: “As a teacher heading back to school after a long five months and having to wear PPE in the classroom, I couldn’t keep my glasses from fogging over. I would try to go without my glasses, but then I couldn’t read anything. I was caught in a vicious cycle…wear glasses = foggy and can’t see or take glasses off = can’t see. UGH! I ordered this anti-fog spray hoping it would be the answer to my prayers. It was...I spray each lens every one or two days and I can see clearly now! I am so thankful I found this defogging spray!” —Angie

Promising review: “These don’t just work for extending but also for making a mask tighter if needed. It’s because it pulls the mask ear straps farther behind your head. Therefore, whether it’s extending or making the mask tighter depends on which notches on the ‘extender’ you use. Either way, they are perfect because they make any mask we have fit so much better for every member of our family!” —JSB2000

Amazon

Promising review: “Being a nurse, I have been wearing a mask for 40 hours a week for months now. Unlike some people, I don’t get sore ears. The two issues I have are my glasses fogging and the mask working its way right up into my face and landing in my eyes when my glasses aren’t on. I’ve tried other extenders, including the plastic ones with several hooks and ribbons with buttons sewn on. This beats all of those.” —BamaRN
